Eugenia Tobal's moving confession to the Pope
I'm
not keen at watching TV but, a few days ago, I spotted a TV report where was
presenting a viral photo and a video that are considered to be very
moving. It is about an Argentinian
actress that went to the Vatican to visit the Pope. When the pope approached to
the people to bless them, the actress whispered between tears that the only
thing that would make her happy is to be a mother. The same pope asked to the Vatican
press to publish that picture on the Vatican newspaper.
But
my question was, why does that assertion was so relevant on TV? As I said
before, I don’t watch much TV and I considered the world of television is
extremely shallow and biased. But the relevance of this picture is that the
actress is known to be prosperous figure but the only thing she feels that is
left so as to be happy is the possibility to have a child. She is also known
that she got pregnant several times but those pregnancies ended up in
spontaneous abortions. As a consequence, she was neglected by several of her
boyfriends that seemed to be displeased with that fact. But the problem is the following;
she was criticized by several TV shows for saying that she would be happy if she
can be a mother. Some critics supports that she is very influenced by the standards
of society which consider that a person can only be happy by being married and
having children. Some advocates deem that in order to be happy in Life, we need
to have family.
From
my point of view, I consider that having a partner or having children is
something that society tells you to do so. I believe that you can be happy by
being single and without children but I also recognize that having someone by
your side can make you feel happier than being alone. What bothers me is how people
who work in television always put their nose in where it’s not wanted. I
personally consider each person’s idiosyncrasy and if that actress considers
that she would be happy by having baby, it’s completely right. In the video, I could see that
the actress is very sincere with what she tells to the pope and I am very moved
at the willingness of the pope to listen to her. I hope, she could accomplish her wish.
Anto, I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. I don't believe that society is pushing us to form a family or to have children; I believe that that is our human instinct. We weren't made to be alone; it's extremely painful just the fact of feeling alone, imagine being all by yourself, without your family, without any friends to tell you that they love you. You cannot even tell them how much you love them. It must be really sad being all alone without anyone to comfort you when you are feeling down and blue.
ResponderBorrarBesides, it is a fact that many women have a lot of difficulties having children. It is strange but it is something natural, women have like a natural instict of having children (I'm not saying that only women, I also want to be a father, but not right now, hahaha). Apart from that, I have to partially agree with the fact that there is like a social pressure on having children, but I think she is feeling it a lot harder on herself because of the fact of being famous. Media tends to destroy celebrities' reputation by saying things like that, so that's why, I believe, she is feeling that pressure of having a child.
But in the end, I, too, hope she can get what she wants!

ResponderBorrarAnto, I agree with you on the fact that the TV is constantly choosing what to broadcast and what not. In this particular case, I think that this piece of news was given a lot of relevance because it represents one of the most profound wishes in someone's life. Apart from that, I consider that having had the opportunity to express her need to the Pope might have been really important for her since, as far as I am concerned, she is a Catholic person who prays a lot every day.
ResponderBorrarUnfortunately, she has a bad reputation on TV if we take into account that each gossip programme criticizes her saying that every relationship she has had has not been successful enough... As you said before, she has had two spontaneous abortions which have had strong repercussions in her self-esteem. In order for her to be a happier person, I also hope she can make her dream come true!
